I'm done!

We had graduation today, and except for our end-of-the-year breakfast, and department checkout tomorrow, Bill and I are on our way to Idaho and Oregon! Yay! Look out Tyler and Summer...we will soon be on your doorstep. I was going to take some pictures of graduation and post them on this blog, but judging how some of the graduates looked, and how tender the moment was (sniff, sniff), I couldn't allow myself to reveal such memories (and besides, I forgot my camera). Oh well, next time, maybe. I will take my camera to Orofino and Portland, though. Look out, everyone!

It's All Good

We had Stake Conference today, and already I feel better. I noticed I've been a bit negative lately, and that's not good. Soooo, I'm going to try real hard to look at the glass half full, and not get so uptight about things that iritate me. I showed my blog to Bill last night, and his reply was, "Uh, huh, that's good." He is such a sweetie, and quite smart, actually. I'm sure all the while I go off on one of my rants, he must be thinking...just agree, just agree...it'll all blow over soon :)

I can smell summer (not you, Summer!)

Less than one week of school left...if you were ever thinking of going into education, don't. Well, maybe I should take that back. Education does have its perks; like having your summers off!!! Don't get me wrong, I love my career, but right now, with one week left, I 'm ready to cash it all in. I have basically completed grades (only one more class of narrative papers to read and grade), but there is nothing else the students can do to raise their scores. Friday, when school was out, a student came up to me to see what grade he had. When I told him it was a C+, and grades were finished, he asked that well-worn, drive me crazy question: is there anything else I can do to raise my grade? As gently as I could, (and you know me and "gentle") I said no. He went through a list of assignments he now wanted credit for (which, by the way he hadn't done ), and I again "gently" said, no, I wasn't going to go back in and now give him credit for those missing or late assignments and raise his grade. He whined, and argued, but to no avail. He tried another approach ( I love those counter-attacks the kids try on a seasoned teacher), and finally said, he needed a B-, at least. I asked him why, and he said "without a B, he couldn't drive his car this summer!" I wish I had a picture like Mandy, pulling out her hair to put on this blog...that's how I felt. I just want them all to go away. Well, there are a few kids I sort of will miss, but honestly, they must think I am dumber than I look.

I Can't Stand Liars!

I just have to get this out of my system! I HATE LIARS!! I had a student (who was doing her poetry presentation this morning), come in before class, set everything up for her and her partner, then tell me she had her SEOP (she's a senior, and in danger of not graduating). I told her that her partner couldn't do the presentation alone, since it was put together by both of them, and that's how I was grading them. We waited, and waited. She did not return, so I put "Dead Poet's Society" on (the movie). I was planning on showing the class this great movie at the end of the year, anyway. After class ended, I went to look for this young lady, and low and behold I found her, and she, very innocently, told me she was at the counsellors office. I checked with the counsellor, and found out she was not there. Wow, was I miffed. I approached the girl, and she still denied going home, instead of the counsellor, but since I was way smarter than she was, I laughed out loud and said Ah-Hah, I caught you, you dirty rotten scounderel! You lied to me, and you will pay dearly. I didn't really say that to her, but she will pay. Seriously, since I gave her a second chance to do her presentation, and she blew it off, she more than likely won't graduate, since she needs my class. Why is it that kids just can't be honest, and do the right thing? My Sunbeams in Primary even know that! OK, I feel better, now. I hope this didn't bore you to death.

Mother's Day (the real one)

These are a few of the gifts I received for Mother's Day. I decided to take pictures of them, so I would remember how beautiful they were, especially the flowers. I think there is a way that you can make a hard copy of a your blogs, and if so, I may use this medium as my journal; that is just so cool. Anyway, I just want to thank all of my children and husband for all that you've done for me over the years, and how much you mean to me. Summer and Tyler, I didn't get a picture of my book, and DVD (Pilates) from you, nor your gift card, Erin, but I love you guys just as much. Our house is going to smell so good with the flowers and candles (warmer), now all I have to do is get into shape with the Pilates program, and go out and buy something cool with my gift card. Yep, I guess my time over the next few months will be full: exercising, shopping and most of all...travelling! One of the things I also got for Mother's Day, which does not show up here, was a trip to the frozen yogurt shop and a movie, from Mandy. Also, since I've become very addicted to the frozen yogurt from "Spoon Me", Adam and Ashley gave me (very wisely, I might add) a gift card from there.

Mandy's Valedictorian Speech

I just wanted to post this picture of Mandy giving her Valedictorian speech (it took 5-6 shots in order to get a good one without the mic in her face). It was a great speech, and we are all so proud of her! Sorry it's so dark, but I'm still getting used to my camera.

Graduation Day

Well, Mandy and Logan graduated from SUU today. Mandy with her Masters and Logan with his Bachelors. It was a long, but rewarding day. President Monson spoke at the early session, and it was packed! It was supposed to rain in Cedar, but the wet stuff held off for the most part. I thought you'd enjoy a few pictures of the eventful day. I also got notice via text messaging, that there will be school on Monday. We weren't sure going home on Friday whether or not school would be canceled for the rest of the year, or not. Swine flu, you know. All the teachers had to put it in high gear and put two weeks worth of lessons online for the students, and basically scare the crap out of them that the swine flu does not kill, drink lots of water, go online and do your assignments, blah, blah, blah. S00000, we go back to school on Monday, and tell them to forget everything we just told them on Friday, and try to concentrate on their school work (at school). I'm so ready for the end of the year. In case anyone noticed, half of the second picture of Mandy, Bill, and Logan got cut off, and I don't know how to remove it, so sorry Mandy (Bill and Logan, too).
